Yakap sa Dilim

Popcorn, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Di ako takot sa dilim lalo na kung may hawak hawak akong popcorn. O kaya'y pag si Hugh Grant ang pinapanood ko. Mahilig ka din bang manood ng sine?

I'm not afraid of the dark especially if I'm holding on to a tub of popcorn. Or if it's Hugh Grant I'm watching. Are you also fond of watching movies?

Shopping Paradise

Mall of Asia, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

One of the must dos for tourists visiting the Philippines is shopping. After all, the country is home to three of the world's ten largest shopping malls.

Go visit my world, the Philippines.

Kumukutikutitap

Parol, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Parol.

Parol. Symbolizes the star of Bethlehem, whose brightness guided the three kings to the infant Jesus. In picture is one of the so called Pampanga lanterns, proudly Philippine made.

Sungka

Sungka, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Sungka is a game played in many Filipino households, at least during my childhood as this was our grandmother's favorite game. I wonder how many of our youth nowadays know about sungka. Or are they too engrossed with their PSP or Wii to even bother learning the game?

Lei

Lei Offering, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Flowers are among the most photographed subjects in the world because of their beauty and colors. When photographed in black and white, a somber mood prevails.

There are two reasons why the photo is a sad one. First is the black and white interpretation. Second is the subject. The photo shows the leis offered on top of the marker acknowledging the bravery of men and women in the face of war, heroes all.

Ok ka ba, Tiyan?

Halo-Halo, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Likas sa Pinoy ang hilig maghanda kahit na anong okasyon. Isa sa dapat alalahanin ang estado ng pagkain. Dapat lagi itong sariwa at bago pa. Kasi kung hindi, baka sumakit ang tiyan. Laging tandaang alagaan ang pagkain. Isaisip din ito kapag napadpad sa kainang walang kustomer, sa sinehang walang manonood, atbp.

Filipinos naturally love to celebrate any occasion. One item that must always be attended to is the condition of the food. It should always be fresh and new. If not, you might get a tummy ache. Always remember to practice food safety. Keep this in mind too at restaurants without customers, theaters without moviegoers, etc.

Grapes Gripes

Grapes, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I'm not really a fan of grapes. This is one fruit I can do without. I'm not into wine too or even grape juice. When I do eat grapes, I prefer them green and seedless.

Old Favorite

Old Favorite, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I know this flower very well though not by name. I grew up with this flower and it was perhaps the prettiest in my grandmother's garden. One that we were not allowed to pluck. But then again, we shouldn't have been doing that but somehow we got away with another one. Not this one though, she would have noticed. Or her eldest son would have told on us.

A Prisoner's Mother and Child

SeeItSunday.net

Mother and Child by Rodrigo Addu, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

This painting is not by me but by Rodrigo Addu, a prisoner serving 3 counts of reclusio perpetua. His painting is but one of the many artwork on display at the Marian Exhibit at Shangri-La Plaza which I had the opportunity to see yesterday. Aside from the prisoners' artwork which are for sale, religious art are also on display, most of them antiques and just for show. The event is a joint undertaking of Radio Veritas and Caritas Restorative Justice Ministry which aims to uplift the lives of prisoners. It runs from October 11 to 26.

What I found interesting about this piece is that it was made through wood burning. A guide actually told me that the end of a Katol or mosquito coil is used.
