Regal Baby

Peacock, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I was in Brisbane for close to two weeks and in that time, I would see this peacock daily but couldn't get a proper picture. So when I saw it perched like this, almost posing and looking very regal, I was overjoyed. This is my favorite photo because of the story behind it and the incredible chance of being in the right place at the right time.

Hold It

Shoot, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I chanced upon this tourist posing for a photograph with a baby alligator at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, I just had to take a photo of her. Are you as brave? What's the slimiest animal you've handled?

The Great Outdoors

Tamborine Mountain, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

This was what greeted me every morning I was in Australia for a 10-day seminar. The sky was blue despite it being winter then. It was a welcome respite to the concrete jungle I'm accustomed to. Wish I have something like this in my backyard.

Don't Leave Home Without It

In-flight Meals, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

The only time I experienced a flight delay enough to make me miss my connecting flight home was during my flight from Brisbane to Singapore in August 2006 because of some catering problems. We weren't allowed to board our flight but instead were asked to wait because of some issues with the in-flight meals. The whole time, Singapore Airlines took care of us; gave us meal coupons for use in the terminal restaurants, provided hotel and transportation for those of us who missed our connecting flights, booked us on the next flights home and handed us SIA souvenirs.

Keeping Warm

Fireplace, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I was in Brisbane during the winter month of August. Coming from a tropical country, I kept close to the fire during cool nights and learned to drink tea to keep me warm.

Lost and Found

Tamborine Mountain, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

On our first day in Australia, we ventured out to see the Cedar Creek falls using the back route. As it was everybody's first time in the area, we got lost in the forest but found our way back to the hotel eventually. Only a few in our group of 30 saw the falls that day. This was taken several days later when a Korean friend and I took the recommended route. It was an easy hike after all. The others in the group made the hike before we did and encouraged us to go.
