Lost and Found

Tamborine Mountain, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

On our first day in Australia, we ventured out to see the Cedar Creek falls using the back route. As it was everybody's first time in the area, we got lost in the forest but found our way back to the hotel eventually. Only a few in our group of 30 saw the falls that day. This was taken several days later when a Korean friend and I took the recommended route. It was an easy hike after all. The others in the group made the hike before we did and encouraged us to go.

Pastel One

Pastel One, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Last Saturday, I watched the Saturday Group teach kids the basics of painting with oil pastels. This is my first attempt at using oil pastels and illustrates why the enemy of good is better and why oil pastels take some getting used to.

What was your weekend like?

Sa Pag-Ihip Ng Hangin

Chimes, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

These elongated objects made of wood hang from one of the trees of Sitio Remedios. They are silent witnesses to the events in the area where the resort guests take their breakfast, lunch or dinner. Nearby are areas where other guests rest while enjoying their snack or watching the sun set. When the wind blows, a pleasing sound is created when these things strike each other. The solitude of Sitio Remedios is truly relaxing and made even more so by the sound of the sea and these windchimes.

Cake Math

Cake, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

How do you spell thirteen with birthday cake candles?

A big one and three small ones.

Now, the sad thing about this hunt is that somebody had to consume that Red Velvet Cake, layers of red, moist chocolate cake and rice krispies with vanilla butter cream, raspberry filling crowned with white chocolate curls. This photo hunter is now definitely heavier.

And you know what was weird, after I've ordered and was handed my number, it was 13.

Banig

Banig, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

The two objects in this photograph are both Philippine made. In the center is a tablecloth made using the art of crochet. It is flanked by two woven placemats. If examined closely, the recurring pattern of a square is visible.

A Twist of Green

Twist, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I see this arrangement all the time when I visit plant stores. I don't actually know why the stems are twisted to each other. I wonder if the purpose is biological or decorative. Occasionally, a red ribbon is attached to the plant. That it also something that baffles me. Does it bring good luck or merely placed there to make it look good?

Detalye

Tatsulok, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Other photographers may say " Where's the triangle?" from afar. This is a shot of a floor lamp taken in close-up. If details are examined, one may see the many triangular shapes which form this lighting fixture. This is very appropriate for Litratong Pinoy because it features Capiz shells.

Bathed by the Sun

Sunlight Buddha, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

I remember this as a particularly hot day. S2 and I had to cool off at a convenience stop after shooting pictures and attempting to climb the steps leading to the Batu Caves. Even the Giant Buddha was not spared from the sun. On closer inspection, you can see the rays of light striking this statue which guards the entrance to the cave.

This photo is also a good example of scale.

Tabemashou

Temaki, originally uploaded by Em Dy.

Tabemashou is a Japanese word which means Let's eat. What do you think we should eat then? Japanese food seems the most appropriate. This is what's called a California temaki, nori wrapped sticky rice, kani, tobiko and mango served with wasabi and soy sauce.

Here are more Japanese to English translations: temaki - hand-rolled sushi; nori - dried seaweed; kani - crabstick; tobiko - flying fish roe and wasabi - Japanese horseradish.
